Ruth Velina Villarreal is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), a registered play therapist (RPT), and a national certified counselor (NCC). Velina studied applied learning and development with a minor in bilingual education at the University of Texas at Austin before pursuing a master’s degree in school counseling from Texas State University.
Velina has been working with adults and children in outpatient and school settings for over ten years. She has extensive experience working with individuals who struggle to maintain healthy relationships with self and others, as well as those who experience symptoms of unresolved trauma. Her practice includes individual and group work utilizing psychoeducation and a variety of expressive mediums such as play, art, and sand therapies. Velina’s approach is systems focused incorporating trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and neurobiology. A sense of felt safety and humor are essentials in developing a trusting, working relationship with her clients.
In her spare time, Velina enjoys gabbing with her friends, indulging at patio restaurants, geeking out about the brain, and relaxing on the couch with her husband, dog, and cat.
