Marissa is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with 16 plus years of experience working in schools, as well as outpatient mental health clinics and practices. She studied Interdisciplinary Studies at Texas A&M University in College Station. She was a kinder, second, and sixth grade teacher before returning to school to graduate with her Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. Marissa believes that all families have a right to high quality mental health services, and is passionate about serving families with trauma. Marissa has work primarily with children ages Pre-k to 5th grade offering individual, family, and group counseling services. She believes in the power of play therapy and the importance of healing through the strong relationship of the therapeutic process. She also believes in a strength based approach with clients; which includes an informed practice through a multicultural lens. Her focus includes depression, anxiety, trauma, self-esteem issues, adjustment issues, and grief and loss. Marissa utilizes various counseling theories such as cognitive behavior and solution focused therapy. Her practice is also informed with various child centered play therapy techniques and strategies to individualize therapy for her clients. Marissa enjoys reading, decorating, family and friends, and is still on the search for the best fish taco north of San Antonio.
Vida Clinic specializes in school-based mental health and provides a range of services that include individual, family, and group counseling; teacher training and consultation groups; school-wide workshops and trauma-informed culture building.
