Laura Smothermon, LPC
Laura is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master of Science in Counseling from California State University – Sacramento. Laura has been working with children and families in some capacity for the past 15 years. Laura has been a paraprofessional, a substitute teacher, volunteer and classroom teacher in the educational setting. Laura has worked in the mental health field with children and families since 2014. Most of Laura’s experience is in the public-school system delivering mental health services to students individually and in groups. Laura also spent time in private practice and the non-profit setting working with children and families. Laura focuses on issues related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief, self-regulation and trauma. She believes in a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and utilizes components of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Laura is also adept at delivering play and sand tray therapy to clients. Laura works from a holistic, humanistic, strengths-based perspective with her clients, recognizing and building on the unique strengths of each one. She focuses on creating relationships with clients by being truly present and empathetic, understanding their perspective which guides them to solve the issues for which they are seeking therapy. In her free time, Laura enjoys spending time with her family, repurposing old furniture and being outdoors.
