Jennifer Nolan

Jennifer is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) originally from the State of Louisiana.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work with a minor in Sociology and a Master of Education with a concentration in Counseling from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana.

Jennifer has over 20 years experience specializing with clients in individual, group and family settings.  Her areas of expertise are trauma, grief and loss, depression and anxiety. She has provided services in a variety of settings that include psychiatric hospitals, a Children’s Advocacy Center and private practice. In each of these settings, Jennifer has advocated for the acknowledgement of value and access of mental health services.

Jennifer’s practice is guided by the principals that firstly, everyone has the ability to change and readiness is based on each individual, secondly, it is the role of the counselor to provide a safe environment where clients can authentically examine any unhealthy coping strategies and replace them with healthy, more productive skills, and lastly, collaboratively work with clients to increase self-awareness and facilitate reaching a healthy potential.

Jennifer integrates individually designed approaches to optimize the life and work of her clients.  She uses several different therapeutic approaches to accomplish this goal including Solution-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, Motivational Interviewing, System Theory, and Mindfulness Approaches.

While in Louisiana, Jennifer served as a board member on the Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners.  She saw this as an opening to give back to the profession of counseling by serving to protect the public interest by regulating the practice of mental health.  Additionally, over her career, Jennifer has presented professionally at conferences on the state, national and international level.

Before moving to Austin, Jennifer spent two years living and working oversees in Seoul, South Korea.  She had the opportunity to interact and develop meaningful relationships with people of various cultural backgrounds.   She is thrilled to be in Austin and in her free time, enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and taking delight in the awesome food and music in the city.
